Graduate Women in Science
Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) is an international organization with a century-long history of breaking down barriers to inclusion in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The Eastern South Dakota Chapter was established in 2015 and works to actively create a more inclusive environment for all persons in STEM – particularly those who have faced significant barriers to inclusion and acceptance.
Building a global community to inspire, support, recognize, and empower diverse representation in science
GWIS Mission
We welcome all persons to our organization from all backgrounds, disciplines, and education levels who support our mission and who wish to uplift underrepresented voices in the sciences.
We strive to achieve this mission through three powerful goals:
CONNECT
Strive to build a powerful international network of diverse scientists
LEAD
Mentor the leaders of today so that they can inspire the leaders of tomorrow
EMPOWER
Empower historically underrepresented scientists to excel in their careers
Locally, our local chapter hosts a variety of ways to make a positive impact in the STEM community. We are always hard at work to tailor our programming to meet our members’ needs as well as the needs of our local community and we encourage all supporters of diversity in STEM to reach out and let us know how we can make an impact.
